An apartment in a new building can be a bargain purchase.

Alla Shinkevich, an expert from the Nevsky Prostor real estate agency, shared tips on what types of housing can be risky for buyers this year in St. Petersburg.

"Studios and apartments obtained from communal apartments often have problems with redevelopment. This can become a headache, as the legalization may take a long time. Plus, the sale of such housing is complicated due to shared ownership," Alla noted.

Also, in her opinion, it is worth avoiding housing with low quality construction. It will take a lot of investments in repairs, which will cost you an arm and a leg.

New buildings, on the contrary, can be a profitable investment. Their prices stabilize over time, and assignments give a chance to buy an apartment cheaper than from the developer.

"Old houses with serious flaws are taboo. The repair will cost a lot of money and will take a lot of time," the expert stressed.

To summarize, three key recommendations can be identified: avoid studios and apartments with illegal redevelopment, do not purchase low-quality housing and dilapidated housing with serious structural flaws.
